Ford Racing has a 2011 Mustang GT that set a Half Mile Speed Record!
When the Ford Racing team visits the Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tenn., it’s usually to compete against NASCAR’s finest with a squad of race-prepped Ford Fusions. That made for a notable difference when the team brought David Ragan—who normally pilots one of those aforementioned Fusions in the Sprint Cup Series—to Bristol recently for an attempt to break the world record for fastest half-mile closed-course lap in a production vehicle. Ragan’s car: A 2011 Mustang GT modified by Ford Racing specifically to show off new performance technologies. Ragan’s mission: Accomplished, with the Mustang GT ripping off a record-setting circuit of Bristol in just 19.451 seconds, at a speed of 98.947 mph.
